Whether you have a personal Instagram account you’d like to grow into a influencer account, an account for your small business you’d like to use to gain more clients or an account which helps raise awareness of a subject close to your heart, many of us are keen to grow our instagram following. We all know that having a targeted and engaging instagram following is the best way to help get our message, product or business out into the world, and seen by the people we want it to be seen by.
I have personally grown my blog account to over 13k over the last few years. Its not a huge following, but it is a targeted audience of mostly other mums who are interested in the topics I post about on my blog, and the info I share on my social media…and I have done it organically! So I thought I could share a few basic tips to help get you started in organically growing your instagram following.
Be Active and Consistent
Contrary to belief you don’t have to be producing new grid posts daily. Good quality content can take time to produce, so you really should be thinking about quality over quantity when it comes to your grid. That being said you do need to make sure you are putting up posts frequently so as to keep your account active or it will be lost in the algorithm.
Even if you aren’t putting out grid posts daily you should consider posting daily to your stories. Just a few stories each day is enough to help keep your account relevant for the algorithm. If you want to make the most of them consider adding questions, polls, quizzes or sliders to encourage followers to interact. All these little things will help show the algorithm your content is interesting and help push it towards new accounts.
Interact with others in your niche, or those interested in your niche
Start looking for other influencers within your niche, the best way to do that is to search for relevant hashtags and the different accounts using them. Genuinely interact with people posting similar content, leave comments, check out their stories and give them a follow if you’re interested in what they are posting. Building relations with those in your niche is a great starting place to build an organic following of people who will actually be interested in your content.
Next look at the other people commenting on these accounts. They may not be influencers themselves and may not even post the same content, but if they have taken the time to comment on someone else’s post within your niche, they are obviously interested in the content. Go and interact with their accounts too! Don’t ask for follows or like for like though. Just genuinely interact with them, hopefully they will hop over and check out your content in return and thats how you will gain more followers
Provide Value to your followers
Always aim to provide value to your followers. Whether you’re giving them information they may find useful, introducing products that they may like or may solve a problem, or simply providing entertainment value to them, don’t simply post for the sakes of posting. Having an account that helps people in some way will make it more appealing to follow long term and something people will continue to return to for help…or entertainment when they need it.
